SCENIC were appointed as designers for The Upper South in Ap Lei Chau, an eclectic district associated with the art and culture of island life and the vibrancy of Aberdeen Harbour. To reflect this colourful heritage the landscape design approach was based upon a kaleidoscope concept. This inspired the design language for the focal “Crystal Lounge” and related landscape features such as feature screens, custom made light features and paving patterns. There is also an environmental underpinning to the landscape design, with cooling water, shade trellis, tree planting and solar powered fans incorporated to encourage year round use of the podium facilities such as the dining deck and outdoor gym and provision of green features such as green walls, the resident’s farm and herb garden.  Although a relatively small deck area, through careful spatial planning and design detailing the landscape has managed to create a linked series of spaces imbued with individual character and interest that together provide a strong identity for the project.
